Visbiome® Best Practices

While there is not an established time of day to take Visbiome®, probiotics are widely considered most effective when taken in the morning on an empty stomach.
Please consult with your patients regarding your professional recommendations based on their individual needs and health history.

When Recommending Visbiome to Patients

Be sure to discuss the following with your patients:

  • Some strains of bacteria found in Visbiome may be inactivated by certain antibiotics. Advise your patients not to consume Visbiome within 4 hours before or after taking antibiotics.
  • Side effects associated with Visbiome may include mild abdominal bloating, typically within the first few days of taking the probiotic. This is related to a physiological adaptation of the microflora and should diminish within 3-4 days. If bloating persists, reduce your patient’s intake for a few days.
  • Consult with patients who are pregnant or lactating before they consider using Visbiome® or any other medical food product.
  • Visbiome probiotics are lactose-free. Lactose was not detectable in amounts greater than 50 parts per million (PPM). Visbiome may contain trace amounts dehydrated skim milk or milk protein (casein and beta-lacto globulin of less than 2mg/Kg). In summary, when using the most sensitive analytical method available, no lactose was found in Visbiome.
